En los tiempos que corren, es muy fácil conectar con personas de distintos países del mundo y, en el mundo de los blogs ecuestres, es un placer conocer a personas increíbles y que son toda una inspiración. Carolina Silva, amazona portuguesa fundadora del blog Equestrian Trend, además de ser una persona súper agradable y con la que puedes tener una buena conversación, es una de las primeras blogueras ecuestres que comencé a seguir hace años.
Por ello, no pude resistirme a hacerle una entrevista para conocerla mejor y saber sobre los orígenes de Equestrian Trend:
1. ¿Cuándo supiste que los caballos eran tu pasión?
Cuando era un bebé, mis abuelos solían tener dos caballos detrás de su casa durante el verano. No lo recuerdo muy bien, pero mi familia siempre dice que siempre les preguntaba si podíamos ir a acariciarlos y sí recuerdo que estar con ellos era perfecto… ¡aunque no pudiera hacer mucho entonces!
Creo que esos momentos en la casa de mis abuelos fueron el comienzo de mi pasión.
2. ¿Cuándo comenzaste a montar?
Empecé a montar cuando tenía 12. Mi padre me llevó a una cuadra cerca de la playa después de mis clases de surf, y me gustó tanto que le dije que me encantaría dar clases de equitación. Unos días después me dijo que tenía que elegir entre el surf y los caballos y, bueno, ¡creo que ya sabéis cual fue mi respuesta, jajaja!
3. Tienes un blog llamado Equestrian Trend, ¿cuándo decidiste abrir tu blog y por qué decidiste crearlo?
Abrí Equestrian Trend en 2013 porque siempre me había gustado leer blogs, pero no había ningún blog ecuestre perfecto para mí.
En 2013 no había nada interesante sobre blogs de moda ecuestre -solo conocía el blog PegaseBuzz, ¡pero estaba en francés y no entendía mucho!- Me frustraba tanto que decidí crear mu propio blog de moda ecuestre e, inmediatamente, empecé a escribir en inglés porque creía que muchas más personas podrían compartir su pasión y/o opiniones conmigo.
4. ¿Qué pueden encontrar los usuarios en tu página web? ¿Qué es lo que más les gusta?
Me encanta escribir sobre moda ecuestre (nuevas colecciones, marcas…) y sobre productos chulos que podamos usar con nuestros caballos. También hablo sobre algunos concursos y tiendas hípicas que visito alrededor del mundo. Aunque creo que, lo que más le gusta a todo el mundo -¡incluso a mí!- son mis conjuntos hípicos.
5. Tienes a una gran comunidad siguiendo tus posts e historias en tus redes sociales, ¿esperabas que Equestrian Trend llegara a ser tan popular como es ahora?
Bueno, es un tema difícil para mí, creo que vosotros me entenderéis mejor que nadie.
Cuando esta aventura comenzó, no creí que fuera a conocer tanta gente guay o que Equestrian Trend me daría algunas de las mejores oportunidades que nunca tendré pero, a veces, me gustaría vivir en un país donde el mundo del caballo se viva más intensamente que en Portugal… ¿Os podéis creer que solo el 7% de mis seguidores/lectores son de Portugal? Creo que tendría mucho más contenido que compartir en redes. Pero debo confesar que mi presencia en redes sería mejor si no fuera tan tímida y cauta, ¡eso es algo que tengo que mejorar!
6. Tienes un compañero muy especial en tu blog, que es tu maravilloso caballo Galileu ¡Cuéntanos un poco sobre tu caballo y vuestra relación!
Galileu es mi caballo de 7 años. Él tiene una personalidad muy fuerte y te hace saber cuando no le gusta algo pero, al mismo tiempo, es muy bueno y tiene muchísima voluntad.
¡Nuestra historia es graciosa! Cuando empecé la universidad, no quería dejar la hípica, pero tampoco tenía mi propio caballo. Hablé con mi profesor y, un par de semanas más tarde, me dijo que podía pupilar un potro de 4 años que conocía. Estaba aterrorizada, no tenía experiencia con caballos jóvenes… ¡pero decidí lanzarme!.
Cuando lo vi por primera vez me decepcioné, pensé que era un poco feo en comparación con la preciosa yegua castaña que pupilé antes de Gali. Pero él era mi una opción, así que empecé a montarle, creció, se puso guapo y, com mucho trabajo, se convirtió en un gran caballo.
Después de unos meses juntos, el dueño de Gali nos dijo que lo iba a vender. Pensé que mis padres no lo comprarían y no me sentía bien preguntándoles porque mantener un caballo es muy caro. Esa misma semana estaba en el coche con mi padre y me dijo que Gali tenía un nuevo dueño… estaba triste pero sabía que acabaría pasando. Cuando aparcó el coche, comenzó a reírse y me dijo «Enhorabuena, ¡por fin tienes un caballo!» y no me lo podía creer… ¡estaba tan contenta que no podía si quiera abrir la boca!
Tras aquello, nuestra relación se hizo más fuerte, y siento que él confía en mí tanto como yo confío en él y, por supuesto, ¡no puedo imaginarme la vida sin él!
7. ¿Qué crees que es lo mejor y lo peor de un blog?
Uhhh, ¡hay muchas cosas estupendas sobre los blogs! Pero tengo que decir que lo mejor es que puedo hablar de algo que me realmente me encanta con personas que les gusta tanto como a mí (Las otras chicas de mi cuadra no les gusta mucho hablar de conjuntos hípicos monos).
Mi mayor problema sobre «bloguear» es encontrar el tiempo suficiente para escribir tanto como a mí me gustaría. Entre la universidad, montar, pasar tiempo con mi novio y mi familia… no deja mucho tiempo libre, ¡sobretodo cuando estoy de exámenes!
8. Has tenido oportunidades maravillosas para conocer a gente del mundo del caballo muy interesante gracias a tu blog, ¿crees que habría sido posible sin Equestrian Trend?
¡Ni de broma! Equestrian Trend me ha permitido hacer algunos de mis mayores sueños realidad. Nunca habría podido hacer cosas tan divertidas si no tuviera esta plataforma. Igualmente, sigo creyendo que los blogueros ecuestres -o al menos los europeos (sin contar los alemanes, ya que tienen un mercado ENORME)- no reciben el reconocimiento suficiente ¡Espero que en un futuro cercano tengamos más oportunidades!
9. ¿Tienes algún plan de futuro para Equestrian Trend o para ti misma?
Soy una planeadora y soñadora compulsiva. Siempre estoy pensando sobre las cosas que quiero hacer en el futuro pero, por ahora, me centro en acabar la universidad. Después de eso, os puedo asegurar que pensaré más seriamente sobre los próximos pasos a seguir.
¿Quién sabe si seré la próxima Noelle Flöyd, Lin Kingsrød o la próxima Edwina Tops-Alexander? ¡No hay límites!
10. ¿Tienes alguna anécdota sobre Equestrian Trend que compartir con My Horseback View?
Bueno, ¡durante estos 5 años han pasado muchas cosas graciosas!
Cuando cree Equestrian Trend no dije a nadie que tenía un blog así que, cada vez que un amigo descubría «mi secreto», esa persona se emocionaba muchísimo y siempre tenía que explicar por qué no decía nada sobre ello (para seros sincera, ¡esto sigue pasando!).
La siguiente historia graciosa que me ha pasado fue cuando recibí mi primer paquete de una marca, fue de MagicBrush. Me enviaron un kit para mí y otros cuantos para un sorteo… Me sentí como en Navidades y, sí, ¡estuve gritando y saltando por mi casa como un niño pequeño!
Y la última: a uno de mis amigos, que también monta conmigo, le gusta llamarme Equestrian «Trenga» (Trenga es una forma coloquial para Torpe en portugués). No soy torpe, pero a él le encanta tomarme el pelo porque Trenga suena casi como Trend, ¡y el piensa que el la broma perfecta!

Nowadays, it’s super easy to connect with people from different countries around the world. Talking about Equestrian bloggers, it’s such a pleasure to meet wonderful people who are such an inspiration.
Carolina Silva, Portuguese rider and founder of Equestrian Trend’s is not just a wonderful person who you can talk about anything, her blog is one of the first equestrian blogs I started following years ago.
Because of it, I couldn’t resist to ask her to have an interview so we all can know her better and discover the beginnings of Equestrian Trend:
1. When did you know that horses were your passion?
When I was a baby my grandparents used to have two horses at their backyard during the Summer and I don’t remember it very well but my family says I would always ask if we could go pet the horses and I do remember that being around them was perfect although I couldn’t really do much! I think those moments at my grandparents’ were really the beginning of this passion!
2. When did you start riding?
I started riding when I was 12. My dad took me to a barn near the beach after my surf lesson. I loved it so much that I told him I would love to take riding lessons. A couple of days after he told me I had to choose between surf and horses and, well, I think you know what my answer was! HAHAHA.
3. You run the equestrian blog called Equestrian Trend, When did you open your blog? Why did you decided to create it?
I started Equestrian Trend in 2013 because I’ve always loved reading blogs but there wasn’t any equestrian blog that was perfect for me. Back in 2013 equestrian fashion blogs weren’t a thing – I only knew PegaseBuzz but it was written in French so I didn’t understand much! I got so frustrated that I decided to create my very own equestrian fashion blog and I immediately started writing in English because I thought more people would be able to share their passion/opinions with me!
4. What can users find on your website? What do they like the most of it?
I like to write about equestrian fashion (new collections, brands) and about cool products to use on our horses. I also talk about some shows and tack stores that I visit around the world. However, I think what everyone – including me! – loves the most are the blog posts about my riding outfits!
5. There’s a huge community following your posts and stories on the social media, did you expect Equestrian Trend to be as popular as it is today?
Well, this is a difficult topic for me and, perhaps, you can understand me better than anyone else.
When this adventure started, I was far from imagining that I would meet so many cool people or that Equestrian Trend would give me some of the best opportunities I’ve ever had but sometimes I wish I was in a country that lives the horse world more intensely than Portugal – can you imagine that only 7% of my followers/readers are Portuguese? – I think I would have so much more to share on social media! Though I must confess that my presence on social media could be much better if I wasn’t so shy and cautious, that’s something I must improve!
6. You have a really special partner on your blog, who is your wonderful horse Galileu. Tell us a bit about your horse and your relationship!
Galileu is my 7-year-old gelding, he has the strongest personality and he will let you know when he doesn’t like something but at the same time he is the kindest and has such a strong will!
Our story is quite funny! When I came to college I didn’t want to quit riding but I didn’t have my own horse. I talked with a trainer and a few weeks later we told me that I could lease a 4yo gelding he knew – I was terrified, I didn’t have any experience with young horses but I decided to give it a go!
When I saw him for the first time I was so disappointed, I thought he was so ugly compared with my previous lease that was a gorgeous bay mare!!! However, he was my only option so I started riding him, he got taller, prettier and with lots of hard work he became a great horse.
After a few months of being together, Gali’s owner told us he was going to sell him. I thought my parents would never buy him and it didn’t feel right to ask them to do it because owning a horse is super expensive. Later that week I was in the car with my dad and he told me Gali had a new owner, I was sad but at the same time I was already expecting that to happen. Then after parking the car, my dad started laughing and told me “congrats, you finally have a horse!” and I couldn’t believe it, I was so happy that I couldn’t even open my mouth! After that, our relationship only got stronger, I really feel he trusts me as much as I trust him and I obviously can’t imagine my life without him!
7. What do you think is the best thing about blogging and what is the worst?
Uhhh, there are so many great things about blogging! But I would have to say the best thing is that I get to “talk” about something I really love with people who love it as much as I do (the other girls at my barn don’t usually talk about cute riding outfits!).
My biggest struggle with blogging has got to be finding enough time to do it as often as I would like because between college, riding and spending some time with my boyfriend and with my family, there isn’t much time left, especially when I have exams!
8. You had wonderful chances and you met lots of known equestrian people because of the blog, do you think it could be possible without Equestrian Trend?
No way! Equestrian Trend has allowed me to make some of my wildest dreams come true and I don’t think I would ever be able to do such fun things if I didn’t have this platform. However, I still think equestrian bloggers – or, at least, European equestrian bloggers (besides German bloggers because they have their own HUGE market) – don’t get enough credit! Hopefully, in a near future we will have more opportunities!
9. Are you planning any future projects for Equestrian Trend and yourself?
I’m a compulsive planner and dreamer. I am always thinking about things I want to do in the future but, for now, I’m focusing on finishing college. After that, I can assure you that I will think more seriously about the next step.
Who knows if I’ll be the next Noelle Flöyd, the next Lin Kingsrød or the next Edwina Tops-Alexander? The sky is the limit!
10. Do you have any funny stories about Equestrian Trend to share with My Horseback View?
Well, during the past 5 years funny things have happened!
When I created Equestrian Trend I didn’t tell anyone I had a blog so every time a friend discovered “my secret”, that person would get super excited and I would always have to explain why I didn’t tell anything about it (to be honest this still happens)!
Then the funniest thing must have been when I received my first parcel from a brand, it was from MagicBrush. They sent me a PR kit and a few more sets of brushes for a giveaway, it felt like Christmas and, yes, I did scream and jumped around the house like a little kid!
And the last one: one of my friends who also rides at my barn likes to call me Equestrian Trenga (Trenga in Portuguese is sort of the slang word for clumsy). I’m not clumsy but because he loves teasing me and because trenga almost sounds like Trend, he thinks this is the perfect joke!
